Get Active Outdoors

My new years resolution was to walk everyday.  And half way through the year, I am doing pretty good.  I have walked outdoors almost every day since January first.  I missed a day when we had the very heavy snowfall in early March.  And I missed one other day when we had extremely heavy rain and wind.  So overall, I am happy with my efforts.  My mission is to continue with this walking for the whole year and beyond.

I love getting outdoors walking and it really benefits my health and wellbeing.  Over the Summer months it is a pleasure to get out walking and at the moment, it is a joy to be outside.  I bought rain gear for the more difficult Winter weather, but at the moment, this is packed away.  I am lucky enough to live in Castletownbere which is in the Beara Peninsula.  It is along the Wild Atlantic Way and we are surrounded by mountains and by the sea.  It is unspoilt and abounds in natural beauty.  We have fantastic walks including The Beara Way, which is a 206 km long circular trail around the Beara Peninsula.

As the weather has been particularly good these last few weeks, I have gone kayaking with the seals in Adrigole with Wild Atlantic Wildlife, I have been cycling, swimming and doing amazing hill walks around Beara.  I have joined Kenmare Walking Club and Mountaineering Ireland  And I am planning going Wild Camping in Beara over the coming months.  Initiatives like Get Walking Ireland and Healthy Ireland are great for promoting health and wellbeing in Ireland.

I find that getting outdoors and exercising has many health benefits, including improved mood, reduced depression, enhanced self-esteem, it is low-cost, easy to access, it connects you with Mother Nature and it is also a great way to spend time with your family.  I love getting off the main roads and exploring quiet mountain tracks.  I really do believe that outdoor exercise is a great way to clear your mind and prevent a recurrence of cancer.  The Irish Cancer Society is always promoting exercise and a healthy lifestyle.

So, what are you waiting for?  Get out there and get active outdoors!  Your future self will thank you for it!

See you soon,

Issie
